Bag Tags

Loyalist Township says it needs to boost garbage bag tag fees to make up for the rising cost of operating landfills.

It says there hasn’t been an increase in the fee since 2005.

Some residents of Amherstview and Loyalist Township are upset after council increased the cost of the tags by 50 cents to $2.50 cents per bag.

One resident says the increase was hidden in the township’s budget and others say it has refused to bring in a green bin program to help them reduce compostable waste.

The new price kicks in on July 1st.

The old $2 tags can be used until the end of this year.
