Rogers – Don Cherry’s New Contract

He might be 82, but Kingston native Don Cherry isn’t ready to retire just yet.

The “Hockey Night in Canada” commentator has agreed to a multi-year deal with Rogers.  His current two-year deal with Rogers expires at the end of the playoffs.

Grapes sidekick – Ron McLean is in the middle of a four year contract.

Arrest Former Inmate- Crystal Meth

Police believe a Kingston man out on mandatory release from a federal prison was under the influence of crystal meth when he tried to steal a vehicle.

The owner of a Toyota 4Runner and a friend found the man sitting in the vehicle around 8:30 Saturday night in the area of Maitland and King Street.

The man took off with items from the vehicle and ran through backyards into the downtown area.

Police arrested 36 year old Jason Serson.  He’s faces charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Theft under $5,000, Possession of Stolen Property, Mischief and Possession of a Break-In Instrument.

Police say a parole revocation order for Serson.

Woman Arrested – Crystal Meth

Kingston Police is reporting another incident fueled by crystal methamphetamine.

Police says a 20 year old woman addicted to crystal meth was arrested for stealing from a truck in downtown Kingston.

The woman was arrested Sunday night after falling of the bicycle she was riding in the area of Brock and Wellington Streets.

Police say she has no fixed address and has been charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

Prison Farm Survey

Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen is urging people to complete and online survey about the prison farms at Collins Bay and Joyceville Institutions.

The government has launched a feasibility study on re-establishing the two prison farms that were closed in 2010 by the previous Harper government.

The online questionnaire is now available through the Corrections Canada website.

A town hall meeting is also planned…it’s expected to take place in early August.

Pet Odour – Neighbour Assault

A man who had just moved into an attached home in Kingston has been assaulted in a dispute over a foul smelling odour.

Kingston Police say the 49 year old man was assaulted after complaining about a foul odour from a pet in the attached home on Highway 15 north of the 401.

The man wound up being assaulted in a shed on his property.

His 39 year old neighbour was arrested on June 3rd and charged with assault and uttering death threats.

Chamber Biz Awards Breakfast

The Great Kingston Chamber of Commerce and Kingston Economic Development Corporation are holding the3ir Business Hall of Fame Inductee Breakfast this morning.

The session at the Four Points by Sheridan will recognize people for outstanding contributions to the community.

Paul Fortier is being inducted into the hall as a visionary, The DeRuiter Family and Gary Poupore in the community builder category, Wally and Elaine Viner and Rob Wood in the Mentor category and the Wright Family in the Enabler category.
