Swimming – Not Recommended

The water may look great but it is not so good for swimming at two locations in Kingston according to KFL&A Public Health.  Signs were posted at Breakwater Park on Friday saying swimming is not recommended after high levels of bacteria were found in test samples of the water.  The swimming area at Reddendale and Crerar was posted on July 5th.  They are the only swimming spots out of the 25 in the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington area monitored by the health unit that have been posted this summer.

World Heritage Site – Queen’s Prof

The latest UNESCO World Heritage Site has a Kingston connection.

Mistaken Point, Newfoundland has been recognized as a significant heritage area because its home to the world’s oldest animal fossils.

The man who nominated the area is Queen’s Professor Guy Narbonne who has been studying the area since 1998.  He says it represents the watershed in evolution when life got big after billions of years of mostly microscopic evolution.

Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf says his work is not only first class science; it has helped significantly to revive the fortunes of the town in Newfoundland by drawing global attention to it as an important heritage site.
