Firefighter Funeral

Firefighters, members of the military and correctional service will fill the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre in Amherstview tomorrow for the memorial ceremony for Loyalist Township firefighter Patrick Pidgeon.

Loyalist Township Emergency Services says due to the limited space the public is invited to pay their respects by lining the procession route to the recreation centre.  People will be able to listen to an audio broadcast of the memorial service in the parking lot.

There will be a formal Fire Fighter processional starting at noon tomorrow from the James Reid Funeral Home on John Counter Boulevard.  It will travel along Taylor Kidd to Coronation Boulevard…south to Amherst Drive and then on the arena.  Visitation takes place this afternoon and this evening at the James Reid Funeral Home.

Mystery of Pole Collapse

A report on the collapse of hydro poles on John Counter Boulevard says there were at least seven factors that created a unique circumstance and contributed to the collapse.

Utilities Kingston has released the report of the engineering company it hired to find out the cause of the bizarre accident.

The factors include an electrical line being hit two days before the collapse, the possibility of machinery being used in the area coming into contact with the poles, an anchor being pulled out of the ground and deterioration of poles due to age and insects.

Utilities Kingston president and CEO Jim Keech says the poles were being replaced and the lines were going to be moved to the new poles when they collapsed.  Nobody was injured and Keech says the safety of Kingston’s hydro poles is a key priority.  He is assuring people they’re safe.
