ACCIDENT
Dalton Avenue was closed for several hours yesterday morning following a serious two vehicle crash between a Chevy Avalanche and a Buick Sedan  just west of Sir John A Macdonald Boulevard.  A 19 year old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.  Kingston Police are still trying to piece together what caused the crash.

DEADLY CRASH
Two people are dead following a fiery crash near Brockville.  Police spent nearly 10 hours investigating the cause of the collision.  At some point the driver lost control along highway 2 between County Road 15 and Blue Church road. That stretch of highway was reopened around noon Thursday.

CAPITOL CONDOS
The city may be willing to consider trade-offs with a developer to allow a high rise condominium project in downtown Kingston.   IN8 Developments is proposing a 17-storey condo atop the former Capitol movie theatre. The high rise would be set closer to the Queen Street side of the property. The city asked public input on whether the project should include a series of community benefits such as public parking, additional bicycle parking,  preserving the theatre’s original façade and an art studio.

YOUTH DIVERSION NEW E.D
Youth Diversion has hired a new Executive Director. Shawn Quigley has been with the organization for 19 years. In that time he’s held several titles – including intervention specialist and youth justice coordinator. Long-time Executive Director Daren Dougall retired last year.

BROCKVILLE BODY FOUND A WOMAN
Brockville Police say the body pulled from the St. Lawrence Park last Saturday is a woman. An autopsy preformed Monday suggests no foul play,  but a positive identification can not be made at this time because the body was in the water for such a long period of time. DNA samples have been sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences to confirm the identity of the deceased.

SEXUAL ASSAULT
Kingston Police are looking to speak to a man who witnessed a sexual assault in the west end of Kingston late Tuesday night on Taylor Kid Boulevard. Police say a 41 year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk on the north side of Taylor Kidd when she was pushed to the ground by a stranger who pinned himself on top of her and sexually assaulted her.  The attack stopped when a man passing by in a large dark truck slowed down and asked what was going on.  Police are asking anyone to come forward who may have information.

BEACH REOPENS
Good news if you’re looking for a refreshing place to cool off. It’s Ok to go swimming again at Breakwater Park. KFL&A Public Health is now listing the park as “open” on its beach listing website.  Lake Ontario Park, Crerar Boulevard Beach out in Reddendale and Centennial Beach  are still off limits to swimming.

TASTE OF GAN
If you love food, then it’s time to tempt your taste buds.  The annual Tastes of Gan event is on Saturday! King Street will be closed to traffic between Charles and Stone so people can sample the many culinary delights from the vendors.  The event begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. There will be a kids zone and buskers too. Money raised from this event goes to the  Gananoque Food Bank.

PRISON FARM SUPPORTS ARE BACK
Members of Save Our Prison Farms and the Pen Farm Herd Co-op are coming together again for a rally in downtown Kingston, On Aug. 16, the groups will host a rally outside of City Hall in support of reopening the prison farms in Kingston. The rally will precede a town hall meeting on the subject and aims to show appreciation for the meeting itself. The town hall meeting is just one part of the process that has been initiated by the Liberal government in reassessing the prison farms. Earlier in July it was announced that the Correctional Service of Canada will perform a feasibility study on the subject.

GAN METHADONE CLINIC
Gananoque’s first ever methadone clinic has opened its doors. The clinic, on Charles Street, has been operating for about a month. The two doctors have a roster of patients and expect more to come through their doors.  Solutions-healthcare is a non-judgemental doctor’s office where they prescribe the opiates, no methadone is actually dispensed there, and the daily dose is handed out at participating pharmacies in the town.

SHEEP DOG TRIALS
The Kingston Sheep Dog Trials are on this weekend at Grass Creek Park. Competitions continue today through Sunday with a host of activities for the entire family. Parking is limited so organizers are suggesting you take one of the three shuttles, running from the Toys R Us parking Lot, The Memorial Center and the Marriott Hotel at Kings Crossing.
