Queen’s Homecoming – Police Report

Kingston survived another Queen’s University Homecoming weekend.  Kingston Police reported fewer problems with street parties than in the past.

Police say the final tally from Queen’s Homecoming was 144 tickets…mostly for liquor violations and 19 arrests…mostly for public intoxication.

Police also shut down a number of keg parties and seized 17 kegs of beer.

Three people were charged with injury to an animal for slapping Kingston Police horse Murney on the hind quarters.  Police say one was a male student from Algonquin College…another was a male from Cobourg and the third was a female Queen’s student.  Police say the horse kept its cool even though it was startled.

Hanson Garage – Closing

The Hanson Parking Garage in downtown Kingston will be closed starting today.  The city says the garage at Brock and Wellington Street will be undergoing repairs and will remain closed for approximately four weeks.

Local Government Week

Grade 5 students from Centennial Public School will be exploring what it means to be a citizen in a democratic society this week at Kingston City Hall.

It will be their classroom for the week.  The students will get to speak with city councillors about how citizens can get involved in the decision making process.

They’ll also meet with city staff to find out about their work.

Race Against Drugs

Grade six students from the Kingston area will be learning about healthy, drug and alcohol-free lifestyle choices this week.  Partners for a Safe Community and KFL&A Public Health are hosting the 2016 Race Against Drugs Program.  More than 11 hundred grade six students from 32 area schools will take part in the program at the Thompson Drill Hall at CFB Kingston this week.

More than 11,000 people voted for the lyric to appear on the stone commemorating the bands final concert of the Man Machine Poem tour and almost 8,000 chose the lyric from Blow at High Dough.

RMC and CFBK – Federal Money

The Royal Military College and Canadian Forces Base Kingston are getting $5.8 million dollars from the federal government.

The money will be used for renovations to the Fort LaSalle Dormitory and the Yeo Hall at RMC and for construction of a new ammunition compound at CFB Kingston.
