Kingston’s new hospital is almost ready.

Construction of the new Providence Care has taken three years and officials get the keys this week.  Patients won’t be moving from St. Mary’s of the Lake until April.

Staff will undergo training in the new facility between now and then.

The cost of the building and its equipment is about $400 million.

Hospital Funding

Kingston’s three hospitals are getting a total of almost $2,752,000 in additional funding from the Ontario government.  A news release says the funding is top support population growth and the changing health care needs in the community.  Kingston General is receiving $890,000…Hotel Dieu is getting $284,600 and Providence Care is getting $1,576,300.

Lennox and Addington County General Hospital in Napanee is receiving $212,100.

E-Mail Scam

Napanee OPP is warning people about the latest scam.

The OPP says it has received reports from a number of people who have received e-mail messages demanding payment for a traffic violation.  The e-mail contains a hyperlink that says you can view a photo and it is believed anyone who clicks the link will allow malware to be downloaded to their device which could damage it, make it inaccessible or be used to steal personal information.

Police say the best thing to do is simply delete the message.

Habitat Home

A Napanee family is getting the keys to the first Habitat for Humanity home in Napanee today.  Volunteers and the family have worked to complete the home at 231 King Street.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2pm today in Napanee.

United Way Update

The United Way campaign in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington wraps up on Wednesday with the touchdown breakfast at the Ambassador Hotel and Conference Centre.

The campaign thermometer stands at just under $3,200,000.  That’s about $250 thousand dollars short of the $3,451,000 goal.

Stuff Bus – Tallack – Salvation Army

Shoppers have helped stuff a Kingston Transit bus with food for the Salvation Army.

Almost 19 hundred items were donated during the event at the No Frills on Division Street on Saturday.

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Hamper Campaign also got a big boost from Tallack Martial Arts.  Children in its Karate Kids program held their 21st annual event at Cataraqui Woods Public School on Saturday and raised $3,600.

Porsche – 215 km/h

The OPP has charged an 18 year old driver from Toronto with going 215 km/h on the 401 near Belleville.  The OPP had received a call about a black Porsche speeding on the westbound 401 near Marysville around 9:30 Saturday night.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver charged with racing a motor vehicle.  The vehicle and the 18 year olds license were seized for seven days and he’s got a January 5th court date in Napanee.
