CHANGES TO KINGSTON TRANSIT FEES – 2017

2017 will see some changes to fares for public transit within the city!

The city of Kingston warns, while some will see small increases to fees others will be saving.

Currently, the price for adults is 2.75 per ride, and 2.50 for children and youth and a monthly passes for the affordable transit pass program range from 34 to 47 dollars.

Come January 1st, adults will pay 25 cents more per ride, but children 12 and under will be free, and affordable bus passes will be reduced by between 6 to 9 dollars.

For the past three years, Kingston Transit fares have not changed and the new prices are set to stay in place for at least another 3yrs.
LANSDOWNE – EVADING POLICE

A Kingston man is facing numerous charges after trying to evade police near Lansdowne last week.

Leeds County provincial police responded to a Highway 401 traffic complaint last Friday which resulted in a chase and attempt to run the international border.

Police thought the chase had ended when the suspects’ vehicle collided with a cement barricade, but the driver then fled on foot where he was caught shortly after by U.S Customs and U.S. Border Protection officers.

40 yr. old David Joseph MacDonald, is being held for a bail hearing in Brockville where he faces several charges, including; dangerous driving, flight from police, and driving while under suspension.

ARMED ROBBERY CHARGE

A Belleville man has been charged with armed robbery after he failed to hold up a convenience store.

Tuesday night at a west end convenience store a man wearing a disguise and brandishing a knife demanded cash from the store clerk.

After a brief verbal confrontation the suspect fled empty handed.

Officers located the would be thief shortly after and took him into custody.

The unidentified man remains in custody and will be in court today where more charges could be laid.

HIT & RUN HWY 15

The OPP are asking for your help in finding a vehicle involved in a hit and run on Highway 15 just north of Highway 401 on Tuesday night.

A car was making a three-point turn on a railway overpass near John F Scott Road when it was struck by a northbound pick-up truck around 7:30pm, Tuesday.

Luckily no one was injured, but the vehicle suffered severe damage.

The suspected pickup truck is believed to be a white GMC, which will have damage on the front driver’s side!

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.

OPERATION RED NOSE FINAL NIGHT

Operation Red Nose will offer its services for one more night this year.

The designated driver program has had a very successful season thus far and is gearing up for their busiest and final night of operation in 2016, New Year’s Eve.

Operation Red Nose is a national program dedicated to help prevent drinking and driving with all donations going to local family literacy projects and other educational programs.
