Buses Cancelled – Correction

 

It’s Tri-board Transportation Tuesday!

Trio-board Student Transportation cancelled all school transportation today because of the freezing rain in the forecast.

 

East of Kingston….Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario was operating today but there were a number of delays and cancellations posted on its website.

Tandem Technical – Carbon XPrize

Kingston could be at the center of breakthrough technology in the fight against climate change.

The city is already home to the CO2 Capture and Conversion Research, Development and Commercialization Centre.  It’s operated by Enviro Innovates.

Tandem Technical has announced a partnership with Enviro Innovate to develop its technology to convert CO2 into everyday products.  Tandem Technical is one of three Ontario companies that has advance to Round Two of the $20 million dollar NRG COSIA Carbon XPrize…a competition to find the best processes to convert greenhouse gases into usable products.  Queen’s University, DuPont, GreenCentre Canada, Kingston Process Metallurgy and WorleyParsons will also be working with the company.

Attorney General – Kingston

Speeding up the justice system in Kingston and outlawing scalper bots are on the agenda for Ontario Attorney General Yasir Nagvi today.

Naqvi and Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala will make an announcement on improvements to the justice system at the Frontenac County courthouse this afternoon.

Following that they’ll host a town hall meeting from 4 to 5:30 this afternoon at the Tett Centre on ticket selling.

Nagvi has promised the province will introduce legislation to outlaw scalper bots this morning.

Kiwala had introduced a private members bill to outlaw software used by scalpers after thousands of tickets to The Tragically Hip’s concerts were bought up by ticket resellers.

E-bike Impaired – Jail Time

A 63 year old Kingston man has been sent to jail for 30 days after pleading guilty to riding an e-bike while he was impaired.  Vernon Fralick was charged last May when he fell off his e-bike at Wylie and Drennan Streets.  He had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.  He also has three prior drinking and driving convictions.  On top of the 30 days at the Quinte Detention Centre he’s been ordered not to ride an e-bike or drive for two years.

Kingston – Summer Jobs

The City of Kingston has opened applications for students who want a summer job.

The city has over 100 summer positions available that pay up to $18 an hour.

The jobs are available for full-time secondary or post-secondary students who are returning to full-time study in September 2017.  Applications can be made online and the deadline is Sunday, March 5th.

Lumina Borealis – Fort Henry

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission is extending the popular Lumina Borealis display at Fort Henry for three more weekends.

General manager and CEO Darren Dalgleish has announced it will run from Thursday to Sunday this weekend and next weekend and from Thursday to Saturday on the last weekend of the month.

The show has attracted just over 50,000 visitors since opening.

As an added incentive…people who purchase a ticket to Lumina Borealis will get a special code that gives them first access to Kingston Penitentiary Tours this spring.
