Stabbing – Central Frontenac

A man from Central Frontenac has been charged with assault with a weapon after another man was stabbed in the neck.  Police say the victim did not suffer life threatening injuries on Friday.

Sharbot Lake OPP responded to a call about an argument involving two men at a residence on Clement Road and found the victim.  He was taken to hospital by paramedics.

The suspect took off from the residence but later returned and police say 22 year old Andrew Stoness was arrested in the parking lot.

Shafia Lawsuit

A Kingston lawyer who represented the wife of Mohammad Shafia in the Kingston Mills honour killing murder case says he is owed over 100,000 dollars in legal fees from the trial 5 years ago.

The civil case of lawyer David Crowe is being heard this week in Kingston.

Crowe represented Tooba Mohammad Yahya during the trial that rocked Kingston and made headlines across the country.  Crowe is suing her husband, Mohammad Shafia, for unpaid legal fees.

Murder Trial – DNA

A murder trial underway in Kingston has been told the man who is on trial was charged after DNA evidence was collected more than 20 years after the murder at Joyceville Institution.

Brian James Riches has pleaded not guilty to the first degree murder of inmate Phong-Nien Chau at Joyceville Institution in July of 1994.

The court was told he was charged after the OPP re-opened the case and DNA evidence was found under the victims finger nails and on several items collected as evidence.

Lions Club – Hospice Donation

The Lions Club of Kingston has donated $100,000 to Hospice Kingston’s “The Time is Now” campaign.  The Lions Club made the cheque presentation yesterday.

The donation was their project to celebrate Lions Club International’s Centennial year.

Hospice Kingston has launched a campaign to raise $7.8 million dollars to build the residential Hospice and Palliative Care Centre at the Sisters of Providence property on Princess Street near Bath Road.

Bob Dylan

Nobel Prize winning singer-songwriter Bob Dylan is coming back to Kingston.

Dylan will perform at the Rogers K-Rock Centre on June 27th.

He’s playing in Ottawa on June 29th and in Montreal on June 30th.

Queen’s Truth and Reconciliation

Queen’s University will release the final report of its Truth and Reconciliation Commission Task Force at a special event today.

The university says it marks an important milestone in improving and building good relations with the Indigenous community and creating meaningful institutional change.

A reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. today at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.

Principal Daniel Woolf will make remarks about the report and its recommendations and there will be several performance by local indigenous groups.
