Child Pornography Charge

 

Kingston Police say a man arrested on child pornography charges was already under an order not to access the Internet or other digital networks.

The 27 year old Kingston man was arrested in Brockville where police seized cell phones and other digital storage devices.  The man faces charges including possessing and making child pornography available to others.

 

Football Team – Concussions

 

A Kingston junior football team is partnering with a researcher in hopes of reducing concussions and other injuries.  The Grenadiers football team has announced it is partnering with Allan Champagne…a medical student at Queen’s and co-founder the Concussion Education, Safety and Awareness Program.  Champagne was also a defensive tackle with the Gaels football team.  Things get underway when prospects for the Grenadiers hit the turf at the RMC dome later this month.

 

Queen’s – Charging Stations

 

Queen’s University is installing 62 electric vehicle charging stations on its campus.

The University says the network of charging stations will be available for students, staff and faculty on the main campus and at the Isabel Bader Centre.

Queen’s currently has just two charging stations for electric vehicles.

The 62 new stations will be installed over the next four months in a partnership with the Tesla Destination Charging Program.

 

Time Change

 

It’s the time change weekend.  Clocks move forward an hour and Kingston Fire and Rescue says it is also a good time to test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

The fire department says they should be tested every month and the batteries should be replaced every year.  It also says the life expectancy of the alarms is 5 to 10 years and they should be replaced according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

 

 

Hospice Kingston – Funding

 

Hospice Kingston will be getting some money from the Ontario government today to support its efforts to develop a new hospice facility.

Kingston and the islands MPP Sophie Kiwala is set to make a funding announcement at Hospice Kingston this morning.  An advisory from her office says Kiwala will announce funding for more patients and families in the Kingston region to receive compassionate palliative care closer to home.

 

Barrie Street – Intersection Closed

 

The intersection of Barrie and Princess Streets will be closed starting on Monday.

The city has announced reconstruction work on Princess Street is on schedule and that means the busy intersection will be closed to traffic – but – Barrie Street will remain open north and south of Princess Street.

 

King Con Returns

 

A popular festival for fans of comics, gaming, sci-fi and fantasy returns to Kingston this weekend.  King Con is presented by the Public Library, Minotaur Games and Gifts, and Kingston Gaming Nexus.

It kicks off tomorrow morning with the library presenting a superhero-themed version of its popular family story time program.  There are also panel discussions and workshops on Saturday and Sunday.

King Con takes place at Sydenham Street United Church because the Central library branch is still under renovation.

 

Seed Sale

 

Things will be really seedy in Kingston on Saturday for people dreaming of gardening.

Seedy Saturday is taking place tomorrow at Loyalist Collegiate.  Seed vendors from the area will be selling dozens of varieties of locally produced seeds. The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
