RMC Suicides

 

The nearly year-long internal investigation into the deaths of three cadets at the Royal Military College of Canada has resulted in a scathing report from a Board of Inquiry.  It found the cadets took their own lives in separate incidents in 2016. RMC had no suicide prevention policy in place.  A censored copy of the board of inquiry’s final report shows the board of inquiry faced challenges accessing information and evidence during its investigation.

The military’s chief of personnel, Lt.-Gen. Charles Lamarre, says senior commanders are committed to fixing the problems as quickly as possible.

 

Military – Sexual Assault Charge

 

A member of the Canadian Forces at CFB Kingston is facing charges of sexual assault, assault, drunkenness and failure to comply with previous conditions.

Ordinary Seaman Austin White faces the charges in connected with a sexual assault and assault that took place in Kingston in October of last year.  The failure to comply charge follows an arrest for drunk driving in Windsor in late December.  A court martial date has not been determined.

 

Drug and Guns Arrest

 

Kingston Police say they found a large quantity of fentanyl laced heroin and methamphetamine along with a handgun, ammunition and two Tasers in a drug raid on Wednesday.  Police executed the search warrant at an address in Central Kingston.  A 31 year old Kingston man faces multiple drug and weapons charges.  Police say they expect more arrests and charges as their investigation continues.

 

Napanee – Domestic Sexual Assault/Forcible Confinement

 

A 22 year old man from Napanee is facing charges following an investigation into the sexual assault of an 18 year old woman.

The man has been charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement, mischief over five thousand dollars and breach of probation.

Police say the victim knew the man.

 

Kingston – Sword

 

Two Kingston men are facing charges after police say one man brandished a sword during an argument while the other broke a window of a vehicle.   They say it happened Wednesday after a 26-year-old man went to a home on Cherry Street to retrieve property and got into an argument with a 30-year-old man.  Police say the pair were in a vehicle when the 30 year old took out a sword and the other man responded by punching out the passenger window of the car.  Both men were arrested and the sword was seized.

 

Pickleball National Championships – Little League Championship

 

Kingston has won the right to host the 2019 and 2020 Pickleball National Championships.  The city is expected to host close to a thousand participants in late June of next year and in 2020.  The competition will take place at the Invista Centre and the city says the tournament is expected to have an economic impact of $2 million over two years.

And…The Kingston Baseball Association will host the 2019 Provincial Little League championships in July of next year at the Shannon’s Corner’s Ball Park in Glenburnie.  About 500 young baseball players will attend the tournament.

 

Hall – Ball Hockey Tournament

 

The Fourth Annual Taylor Hall Charity Ball Hockey Tournament takes place on Saturday in the Downtown Metro parking lot.  The NHL MVP will be on hand with over 40 hockey players.  The event runs from 10am to 5pm and funds raised will support the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston and Area.

 

Fire Truck Pull

 

Volunteers will be getting together on Sunday for the sixth annual Pull Together for Epilepsy – Fire Truck Pull in Kingston.  The event organized by Epilepsy South Eastern Ontario is held to raise funds and raise awareness about epilepsy.  There are over 4,000 people affected by it in Kingston and the surrounding area.

Registration for teams starts at 11:30 in Confederation Park and the competition starts at 1pm Sunday.
