Sometimes, rap and rock are combined for stellar results.

Just think of some of the classic collaborations – Linkin Park and Jay-Z. Aerosmith and EminemAerosmith and Run-DMC. Given the fact we just mentioned Aerosmith twice, you would think that if anyone could collaborate with an internet “mumble rapper” and have it be a success, it would be them…right?

The 35th annual MTV VMAs saw Aerosmith collaborating with a rapper once again, this time, Post Malone.

You may know Malone as one of the many barely comprehensible rappers with facial tattoos that have seemingly taken over streaming platforms and social media sites. Fans seemed split on whether or not they enjoyed the performance, with some even joking that neither fan base would know who the other performer is, which is not inaccurate.

(Aerosmith come in at about 2:40)

By far the harshest review came from Rolling Stone;

“It started with a haunted-factory vibe, as a neon-bedecked Post Malone stalked dimly-lit steel corridors mumbling about “shottas” and “poppin’ pillies” and things of that nature. Scary! Things didn’t get much more fun when a glowering guitarist who resembled a sentient Canada Goose jacket entered the picture. But the corniest was yet to come: After making rap hands at 21 Savage for a hot second, Posty picked up an axe of his own and joined Aerosmith for thoroughly half-assed renditions of “Dream On” and “Toys in the Attic.” It was a must-see moment for the 0.2 people in the Venn diagram of the two artists’ fan bases.”

Yikes.
