Boy Injured

A five year old boy has suffered serious…but not life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Bagot Street in City Park.

The boy was sent to hospital around 2:30 yesterday afternoon.

He had been attending the Queen’s Athletics and Recreation Mini Sport day camp.

An e-mail message to parents from the University says it has been advised the child is expected to be okay and it is offering whatever support it can to the family.

Kingston Police closed Bagot Street for several hours to investigate.

There’s no word on whether the driver of the vehicle is facing charges.

 

Crash – 401 Closed – Charges

The driver of an SUV has been charged with driving the wrong way on the 401 after the eastbound lanes of the highway were closed between Hwy 37 and Shannonville Road.

The eastbound 401 was closed yesterday afternoon following a serious crash that resulted in injuries.

The OPP says the driver was trying to avoid the closure by turning around and driving the wrong way on the 401 and faces a minimum $110 fine and 3 demerit points.

Two other drivers were charged for being on the closed Hwy after driving around the on ramp gates and face the same penalties.

 

Sun Convenience – Owner Assaulted

Kingston Police are looking for a woman who injured the owner of the Sun Convenience Store on Montreal Street.  Ruby Lu suffered a gash over one of her eyes when she was hit in the face by a woman trying to shoplift two cans of Red Bull on Tuesday.  Lu was also repeatedly hit on the back before the woman ran from the store.  A customer called police.

It was captured on security video and anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Kingston Police or Crime Stoppers.

 

Napanee Drug Bust

Two people from Napanee are facing charges following a drug bust.

A search warrant was executed at a residence on Dundas Street in Napanee on Tuesday night.  Officers seized methamphetamine and Canadian currency.

42 year old Cecil Raymond Lee and 39 year old Crystal Lynn Laraby have been charged with trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

 

Truck Inspections

One third of the commercial vehicles inspected by police in Napanee were taken off the road.

11 of the 30 vehicles inspected by the OPP, Kingston Police, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Transportation during a safety initiative last Thursday were found to be defective.

The inspections took place on Jim Kimmett Boulevard in Napanee.

 

Traffic Signal

The new traffic signal at Highway 38 and Unity Road has been activated.

Utilities Kingston finished the work yesterday.

The city says it is a road safety initiative and will help when there are higher volumes of traffic when the 401 is closed.

One of the iconic landmarks on the Rideau Canal north of Kingston is for sale.

The Hotel Kenney at Jones Falls is being sold…the asking price? $2.75 million dollars.

Hotel Kenney was built in 1877 and has hosted U.S. President Taft and the daughter of Queen Victoria who called it the most beautiful spot in Canada.

Rose of Hope

The 21st annual Rose of Hope Golf tournament on Tuesday raised $220,000 for Cancer services in the region.

That matches the record amount raised during last year’s tournament at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club.

Over the 21 years the tournament has been operating it has raised more than $1.8 million dollars for cancer services.

 

Bass Fishing Tournament

Some of the top bass anglers will be calling Kingston their home base for a fishing tournament starting today.

The 2019 Renegade Bass Tour Thousand Islands Open gets underway with a team meeting this afternoon at the Queen’s University Bioscience Complex.

Anglers will get the lowdown on the three day tournament during the session.  They’ll start fishing tomorrow.

The grand prize is a bass boat valued at over $75,000.

Weigh-ins take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.
