Fire – Nelson Street

 

A fire at a home on Nelson Street in Kingston has left a family looking for a new home and hoping to replace their belongings.

The fire in the basement of the home on Friday night caused about $100,000 damage.  Kingston Fire and Rescue says the cause is not suspicious.

Two cats died in the fire.

All of the family’s belongings were destroyed and they did not have insurance.

A GoFundMe page called Fire Relief – We Lost Everything has been set up and has raised closed to two thousand dollars for the family.

Door Shooting Suspect – Arrest

 

Lennox and Addington County OPP are thanking a member of the public and Kingston Police for the arrest of a man wanted on a warrant after a gun was fired into an apartment door in Deseronto.

The OPP says a citizen saw the man in Kingston around 3am on Friday and Kingston Police arrested 26-year-old Dyllon Nelson on King Street.

Nelson is facing charges including discharging a firearm with intent to commit a criminal offence following the incident in Deseronto on January 17th.

 

Fatal Crash – PEC

 

A crash involving a propane truck and a passenger vehicle in Prince Edward County has claimed one life.

Prince Edward County OPP say the crash happened around 4:30 on Saturday afternoon on County Road 17.  One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

OPP – Cow Catchers

 

The OPP had to do some cattle herding after a crash on the 401 east of Napanee.

The 401 was closed in both directions around 6pm on Friday after a transport truck carrying a load of cows flipped over.  Some of the cows got loose and police spent several hours herding the animals back together.

One of the cows died in the crash and the highway was re-opened to traffic by around 10pm on Friday.

 

Elementary Strike

 

If you are planning your week…Elementary and intermediate schools in the Limestone District School Board will be closed on Wednesday.  Teacher who are members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario will be holding a one-day strike to protest a lack of progress in contract talks.

And…Friday is a PA Day.
