Coronavirus – Campus Trouble

A student trustee on the Queen’s University board of trustees has apologized for attending a coronavirus themed party and the principal of the university is calling on students and faculty to treat one another with dignity and respect.

Pictures of Tyler MacIntyre and others at the party were posted by the Queen’s Journal student newspaper.  MacIntyre has apologized saying the behaviour was in poor taste.

Queen’s Principal Patrick Deane took to social media yesterday afternoon – but did not refer to the party directly when he wrote…” Ignorantly ostracizing Chinese and Asian students will rip apart the beautiful tapestry of our international campus and must be repudiated by everyone”.

 

Teachers – Rotating Strikes

Ontario’s English Catholic Teachers are on strike today.  That means catholic elementary and high schools will be closed.  The catholic teacher’s union and the Ontario government failed to reach an agreement during negotiations yesterday and no further talks are scheduled.

Public elementary school teachers are taking part in a one-day strike today at several school boards including the Hastings-Prince Edward Board.

 

Ice Fishing Huts – Charges

A 23-year-old man from South Frontenac is facing two charges after two men were injured when their ice huts were hit by a pickup truck on Sand Lake almost a year ago.

Frontenac OPP have charged Devon Berry with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily

harm and failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.

The ice huts were hit by the pickup around 1am on February 17th of last year.  The truck took off.

The OPP says the two men were not seriously injured.

 

Kingston Man Charged – Gananoque

A house party in Gananoque last Thursday has led to an 18-year-old Kingston man being charged with uttering death threats, obstructing police and mischief to property.

Gananoque Police and the OPP were called to the home after it was damaged by two men who had left the scene.

The two men were found inside a business in Gananoque.

 

Woman Charged – Traffic Stop

A traffic stop has led to six charges against a woman from Napanee.

The OPP stopped a vehicle on Water Street around 9:30 Friday morning.

Charges against Crystal Lynn Laraby include possession of a controlled substance, driving while under suspension and possession of a prohibited device.

 

Fluoride – Kingston

Kingston is considering adding fluoride to drinking water.

City council made exploring the feasibility of fluoridating the municipal water supply one of its strategic priorities.
