COVID – Long Term Care

KFL&A Public Health has used inspectors who would normally be checking on restaurants to inspect long term care and retirement homes.  The homes are being checked on a weekly basis and one retirement home has been ordered to make changes under the threat of a $5,000 fine.

The home hasn’t been named.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, feels the regular inspections have helped avoid the spread of the virus in the regions long term care facilities.

COVID – Military

Premier Doug Ford is asking the federal government to deploy military personnel to five long-term care homes in Ontario hit by outbreaks of COVID-19.  Ford says he’ll also be formally requesting extra resources from the Public Health Agency to help provide operational and logistical assistance at the homes.  The province is also expanding testing to every resident and staff member in the homes, where there have been at least 448 deaths amid outbreaks at 127 facilities.

COVID – INVISTA Centre

The Invista Centre has been chosen as the site for a field hospital if it is needed during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Kingston Health Sciences Centre and KFL&A Public Health worked with the city to find the space needed if there is a surge in patients with the coronavirus.

The plan has to be approved by the province before work takes place to establish the alternate health facility at the Invista Centre.
