The Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) is set to present the Spirit of Collaboration Award to Robbie Robertson and Martin Scorsese at the upcoming fifth Annual SCL Awards on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

The prestigious award celebrates the outstanding collaboration between a composer and director, recognizing the remarkable body of work they have produced together. Over a 45-year period, Robertson contributed to 11 films directed by Scorsese, including notable works like The Last Waltz, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, and The Irishman.

This award, known for honouring exceptional partnerships, has previously been bestowed upon Thomas Newman & Sam Mendes, Terence Blanchard & Spike Lee, Carter Burwell & The Coen Brothers, and, in the previous year, Justin Hurwitz & Damien Chazelle.

Notably, Robbie Robertson, who passed away last August at the age of 80, recently received a posthumous Oscar nomination for best original score for Killers of the Flower Moon on Tuesday, Jan. 23. This marked a historic moment, as he became the first composer in 47 years to receive a posthumous Oscar nod in that category since Bernard Hermann for Taxi Driver and Obsession.

Martin Scorsese, aged 81, continues to make waves, earning nominations for both Best Picture and Best Director for his work on Killers of the Flower Moon.

The SCL Awards ceremony will be hosted by Siedah Garrett, a Grammy-winning, two-time Oscar-nominated songwriter and SCL member. Garrett, known for her collaboration with Quincy Jones on The Color Purple and her work on Michael Jackson’s 1987 album Bad, brings a wealth of musical expertise to the event.
