Kozy Inn

Most of the long-term residents of the Kozy Inn on Princess Street in Kingston are staying put.

They were told to vacate their rooms by 11a.m. on Sunday…but the deadline came yesterday and most of the residents have decided to stay.

John Done of the Kingston Community Legal Clinic says the residents have the same rights as other tenants and can’t be evicted on such short notice.

The owners of the Kozy Inn issued a statement yesterday saying they were within the law to close business operations because of tremendous financial stress and debt.

Their lawyer says the matter will now be going to court.
