A University of Canberra study found men who love meat see themselves as more traditionally masculine. The survey involved 5,244 participants and their attitudes toward food and gender.

Those who tended to conform to gender norms were more likely to see reducing meat intake as a “norm violation.”

“We also showed that more feminine women – and more masculine men – viewed meat as more natural, necessary, and nice,” study authors wrote. “Media representations of meat are gendered, and many advertisements position meat as ‘manly’.”

862 participants identified as “flexitarians,” meaning they were primarily vegetarian, but sometimes ate meat. (dailymail.co.uk)
