Rollover

The driver of transport truck was seriously injured when the big rig rolled over on the eastbound 401 on ramp to Highway 38/Gardiners Road.  Frontenac Paramedics took the driver to hospital after he was extricated from the vehicle around nine last night.  The 401 eastbound off ramp to 38 has re-opened after being closed for about eight hours.

City Council

The owners of the Collins Bay Marina want a special meeting of city council to present both sides of the airport expansion story and…Friends of Kingston want economic development to be put out for a Request for Proposals.  A delegation from the group was critical of the Kingston Economic Development Corporation Review.

The owners of the marina say they think the city is trying to kill their 45 year old business to get more business for city owned marinas.

City Council ran out of time to deal with business on its agenda last night and the council meeting will resume tomorrow night.

SUV Driver – Pregnant Woman

The driver of an SUV that backed up into a pregnant woman in the parking lot at the Shoppers Drug Mart in the Kingslake Plaza has come forward.  A 32 year old man came to police headquarters late Monday afternoon.

Police say the investigating officer will determine if charges will be laid.  Police say the SUV back up into the pregnant woman and she fell to the ground on Friday afternoon.  She was taken to hospital as a precaution but police say her injuries were minimal.

Women Stop Domestic Assault

A 24 year old man is facing a charge of assaulting his domestic partner in the vehicle they were living in in Kingston because the man was on the run from another charge for assaulting the same woman.

Three women saw the man punching a woman in the head around 7:30 Monday night.  The couple was in a car in a parking lot at Montreal Street and John Counter Boulevard.  The three women restrained the man until police arrived.  He was charged with assault and police say a warrant for his arrest for assaulting the same woman had been issued by Quinte West OPP.

New Business – Barcadia

It’s a new Princess Street bar with a difference.

Barcadia is an arcade that serves beer.

The former nightclub at 347 Princess Street is being transformed into an arcade full of gaming machines.

They owners hope to open on the Canada Day weekend.
