Flag Burning – Canada Day

Nobody has claimed responsibility after a group staged a flag burning during Kingston’s Canada Day Parade.

Six people wearing black masks burned the Canadian flag on the sidewalk in downtown Kingston as the Red and White People Parade moved down the street Friday morning.

Two of the protesters were carrying a Mohawk Warriors Flag.

Some people in the parade yelled at the group – but it stayed silent and disappeared quickly after putting out the remnants of the burning flag.

Princess Street Opens

Princess Street is now open to traffic in the area that was closed for the Big Dig.  The street was open in time for the Canada Day parade.

But there’s still some work being done and the city is advising drivers to be prepared for delays on Princess between Barrie and Bagot while crew complete surface work.

Work is also continuing on side streets.

Montreal Street will be closed from Princess to Queen until mid-August.

The southbound lane of Wellington Street remains closed at Princess Street for construction of the new Scotiabank.

Canada Post – No Strike Yet

There’s still no deal but the mail will keep moving today.

Canada Post rejected the latest proposal from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers — but the two sides are continuing to negotiate. The two sides say the main sticking point in the talks involves changes to employee pension plans.

Easter Seals – Boatilla

The 12 Annual Buck Lake Boatilla has raised a major amount of money to send kids to Easter Seals Camp Merrywood.

The event was held on Saturday on Buck Lake and raised at least $27,000.

All of the proceeds go towards sending kids to the fully accessible camp on Big Rideau Lake.
