Queen’s – Construction Projects

Queen’s University is moving forward on two major construction projects worth over $100 million.

The university’s board of trustees has approved a new $87.5 million Innovation and Wellness Centre.  It will be built on the former Phys Ed Centre property.  Queen’s still has to raise more than 18 million before construction can begin this fall.

The other project is a new $31.8 million biomedical research building and the funding for that has been secured.

Drug Fuelled Crimes

Kingston Police say a woman has robbed and defrauded her grandparents, sister and a family friend of between 30 and 40 thousand dollars…apparently to fuel her drug habit.

She has been charged with stealing 23 thousand dollars from a friend living with her grandparents, stealing cheques from her grandparents, money from her grandmothers account…the contents of her sisters apartment, threatening her sister with death and stealing a car.

Arrest – Drug Trafficking

A 23 year old Kingston man has been busted for drug trafficking after police raided an apartment in the 100 block of Division Street.  The search warrant was executed Wednesday afternoon.  Police seized cocaine and ecstasy with a street value of about $2,700.  He was charged with simple possession of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Napanee Brewing Biz

A 32 year old Napanee native has moved back to his hometown from Toronto to open The Napanee Brewing Company.  The craft brewery will officially open next weekend on Milligan Lane in Greater Napanee.

Geordon Saunders passion for craft brewing started with a home brew kit he got as a Christmas gift from his wife and he’s now turning that hobby into a full time business.

Show ‘N Shine

High flying motorcycles and a police precision motorcycle team highlight the 9th annual edition of the Kingston Show ‘N Shine tomorrow.

It takes place from noon to 5pm in Confederation Park with the freestyle motocross show and precision team doing their thing on the street in front of City Hall.  It’s free…but donations are being accepted for Almost Home Kingston.

Bellevue House – Whisky

Sir John A. Macdonald was known to raise a glass or two, now and then and you can do the same at his former home in Kingston on Saturday.  A whisky-tasting event will take place at Bellevue House National Historic Site tomorrow.  Visitors will be led through the house while they learn about whisky making, whisky tasting techniques and food pairings.  Parks Canada says it is “the next best thing” to grabbing a drink with Canada’s first prime minister.
