KEDCO – Town Hall

The public has a chance to weigh in on economic development in Kingston during a public town hall meeting tonight.  The Kingston Economic Development Corporation Review Committee is holding the session from 7 – 9pm at Innovation Park.

The consultant leading the review will make opening remarks followed by an opportunity for individuals to express their opinions and provide input.

Shopping Plaza Announcement

Kingston’s east end is finally getting some new retail development.

The vice president of development for Taggart Realty will announce what business will be located in a 70,000 square foot plaza on Highway 15 at a meeting of the Kingston East Business Association tomorrow night.

The session is being held LaSalle Secondary School.

Mayor Bryan Paterson and district councillor Ryan Boehme will also be at the meeting starting at seven tomorrow night at LaSalle Secondary School.

Influenza – KFL&A

The flu has officially arrived in the area.  The Limestone District School Board is spreading the word about not spreading the flu after getting confirmation of a case of influenza from KFL&A Public Health.

Students and staff are being reminded about taking precautions like proper hand washing and covering coughs.

The public health website says Influenza-related activity is at elevated seasonal levels and may be reaching peak levels this week. Fourteen per cent of emergency department visits in the region during January have been for flu like symptoms.

Man Sentenced – Sexual Assault

A Kingston man has been sentenced to 17 months in jail and three years of probation for molesting a 13 year old girl and possession of child pornography.

20 year old Daniel Gorrell pleaded guilty in December to touching a child for a sexual purpose and possession of child pornography…pictures of the girl showering.

The court was told Gorrell blackmailed the girl by threatening to commit suicide when she wanted to break off their relationship.

Motel Room Trashed

A man is facing charges after a Kingston motel room was trashed.

On Monday…staff at the motel found the ceiling of the room had been ripped open, lights had been taken apart and a hole had been punched in the closet door.

Police say a man went to the motel office, started yelling at the female clerk and took a swing at her with a broom.  She called 9-1-1.

A 43 year old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, mischief over $5,000, theft under $5,000, two counts of breach of probation and possession of crystal meth after spitting out a baggie he was trying to swallow.

Ferry – Out of Service

The Glenora Ferry is going out of service for five-and-a-half hours today.

The MTO says the Glenora Ferry will be out of service from 9:30 this morning until 3 this afternoon for scheduled maintenance.

 Ticket Sales – Rogers K-Rock Centre

The Rogers K-Rock Centre has announced a change in its policy for the sale of tickets on the opening day of sales for any concert…beginning with the sale of Santana tickets this Friday.

The arena management company announced yesterday…it will only sell tickets online or by phone on the first day tickets for any concert are available.

That means you won’t be able to go to the box office to buy Santana tickets until Monday.
