Heatwave

Hopefully you were able to get a break from the heat on the weekend?  Hot humid conditions will continue this week.  There’s no heat warning – but humidex values today and tomorrow are expected to be in the mid to upper 30’s.

So, if you have and older family member or know someone who doesn’t live with air conditioning – it might be a good time to check in on them to make sure they’re okay.

Firefighter Memorial

The wife of Loyalist Township firefighter Patrick Pidgeon says he would have been embarrassed by all the fuss.   Karen Green spoke briefly to the crowd of 4,500 firefighters, correctional officers, army personnel and police officers at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre attending his memorial service on Saturday.

She thanked them for the tributes.

Pidgeon died of injuries he suffered fighting an apartment fire in Amherstview on July 16th.

Wannamacher – Obit

People are remembering Dan Wannamacher as a dedicated business person, community member, mentor and family man after his sudden death on Friday.  Wannamacher passed away from a heart at age at age 59.

He was the owner of Kingston Family Fun World and Put ‘n Blast.  He’s survived by his wife Ruth and three daughters.

Visitation is planned for Wednesday at the Robert J Reid and Sons funeral home on Johnson Street with the funeral set for Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Kingston Mills – Closure in September

Parks Canada says it is delaying the closure of Kingston Mills Road until September.  It will announce the exact dates in the near future.

The road will be closed until May of next year for the repair and replacement of the swing bridge and fixed bridge at Kingston Mills.

That will force people to use alternate routes to get across the Rideau Canal
