Drought Conditions

It rained here – but not there…

Environment Canada says 12.6mm of rain was recorded at the Kingston airport during showers and thunderstorms yesterday afternoon.  But the rain was localized – for example…there was nothing in Joyceville…and even areas that got rain didn’t get enough to relieve drought conditions.

Quinte Conservation says water levels are becoming dangerously low on the Black, Salmon and Napanee Rivers.  Officials say they are going to make some adjustments to dams to increase flows.  They’ll be meeting next week to reassess the situation.

Drug-Weapons Bust

A drug bust in Seeley’s Bay has resulted in charges against two men and a woman.

The OPP drug unit, tactical team and emergency response team executed a search warrant in Seeleys Bay on Wednesday and seized drugs and firearms.

A 55 year old woman, a 50 year old man and a 46 year old man face charges of drug possession, drug trafficking and firearms related offences.

The OPP says their investigation is continuing.

Missing Man – Found

Kingston Police say a local man who hadn’t been seen in Kingston since late May has been found in the Pembroke area.  Kingston Police say 48 year old Gary Taylor had been arrested on May 9th for breaching conditions of a court case.  After he appeared in court the next day he never returned to police headquarters to retrieve his property.  Police issued a call for help from the public in finding Taylor last Friday.  The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment has now contact Kingston Police to say he’s currently in the Pembroke area and isn’t interested in retrieving his property.

Promenade

Princess Street will be closed from Division Street to Ontario Street tomorrow for the annual Princess Street Promenade.  Side streets will also be closed at Princess Street with the exception of Barrie Street and Bagot Street. The one day festival is a promotion for downtown businesses and includes activities and displays.

K-Town Tri

The 33rd annual K-Town Triathlon takes place on Sunday in downtown Kingston.

Triathlete Robert McCaldon will be honoured during the awards ceremony.

He’s 80 and is retiring from the sport.

Robert and his wife Jane have represented Team Canada at the World Triathlon Championships. He hosts a mini triathlon called ‘Break the Ice’ and has complete all 32 K-Town triathlons.

Bass Tournament

Anglers are hoping to have big bags of bass to weigh in at the Kingston Canadian Open fishing tournament.  Weigh-ins today and tomorrow are at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.  The tournament wraps up on Sunday with a big arena show at the Rogers K-Rock Centre.

It’s the first time for this kind of event in Kingston where the anglers will show off their catches to the audience and the winner will be declared.
