WINTER STORM HITS KINGSTON AND THE ISLANDS
If you were dreaming of a White Christmas or at least some snow this holiday season You just got your wish.  About ten centimeters of snow fell across the region Monday night.  Plows and sanders spent the night clearing roadways.  Environment Canada is calling for more snow today, ice pellets, freezing rain and high winds which has already reduced visibility and made driving more tricky.  In spite of the storm, Kingston Police and the OPP report no major accidents and remind drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions.

BOXING DAY CRIME SPREE ENDS IN KINGSTON
Kingston police have a man in custody after a Boxing Day Crime spree that stretched from the GTA to Kingston.  It’s alleged the man was involved in a high speed chase with Durham police that was called off due to safety concerns for other drivers.  He was also wanted for his alleged involvement in a rash of gas thefts in the GTA.   After causing  damages to a room and various other property at the Holiday Inn at Division and Benson police arrested the man and charged him with mischief over $5000 and assaulting police while resisting arrest.

OPERATION RED NOSE GEARING UP FOR BUSIEST NIGHT
Operation Red Nose is gearing up for it’s busiest night of the season. So far the holiday designated driver service has provided 523 rides and raised close to $14,000 in donations.  New Years Eve is the final time they’ll be offering the service this season and their busiest night…and as always they could still use some volunteers.  If you’d like to volunteer or need the service in New Years Eve, call 613-544-7447.

LOCAL HOCKEY TEAM TO PICK UP YOUR REAL CHRISTMAS TREE
A local hockey team is going to help with your Christmas clean up. With the holidays over, people are looking to get rid of their ‘real’ trees. That’s where the Kingston Canadians come into play. For 10-dollars, the players will come to your house and haul away your tree to Kingston recycling. Last year they collected close to 600 trees. Their pick ups will be this Saturday, January 2nd and January 9th.
