Man Arrested

A man wanted by Kingston Police for a robbery and break in at a home on Montreal Street in October has been arrested.  Kingston Police arrested 31 year old Francis (Frankie) MacIntosh at a residence on Montreal Street shortly before 9 a.m. yesterday.

He’s been charged with Robbery, Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House and Possession of Dangerous Weapons.

Another 31 year old man is in jail for another crime and faces charges in the Montreal Street burglary.

School Bus Crash

Police say it appears as though a school bus driver lost control of the bus on Kingston Mills Road before it crashed.  There were no children on the bus when the bus went off the road, into a ditch and hit several trees and a mailbox around 9:30 yesterday morning.

The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

National Day of Remembrance

Sunday is the “National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women” and a ceremony will be held at Sydenham Street United Church starting at 4 p.m.

It will include speakers, a candlelight vigil and a rose ceremony commemorating women who were killed in the Montreal Massacre in 1989 and all women killed by gender-based violence.

Red Nose

Operation Red Nose is gearing up to provide rides again this weekend.

You can call them between 9pm and 3am tonight and tomorrow if you’re impaired and need a ride home for you and your vehicle.

Volunteers provided 120 rides to people last weekend.

Nobel Prize Winner

Queen’s University’s Nobel prize winning professor emeritus is off to Sweden for the Nobel Prize ceremony.

Queen’s held a rally for 72 year old Art McDonald yesterday.  McDonald will receive the Nobel Prize in Physics next Thursday.  He shares the prize with a Japanese scientist.

Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf and a group of others from the University will also attend the ceremony.

Lawyers – Volunteering

The Frontenac Law Association will ask lawyers in Kingston to volunteer to help groups going through the private sponsorship process for Syrian refugees.

More than a thousand Canadian lawyers have already volunteered to help people with the process.

The Frontenac Law Association will discuss the volunteer program when its advisory group meets on Monday.

Music Mates

The winner of the Kingston International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award is Music Mates.  The winner was announced during a ceremony at the Invista Centre yesterday.

MusicMates is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating social opportunities for children, youth and adults through music.
