CFB Kingston – Refugees

The Syrian refugees are coming and hundreds…possibly thousands…will be housed at CFB Kingston.

Soldiers at CFB Kingston have been ordered to leave their barracks this week to make way for Syrian refugees.  CTV News says it has obtained an internal memo outlining the request.

The memo does not indicate where military personnel will be resettled.

It says multiple buildings at CFB Kingston are being cleared for November 30th to house refugees.

The Trudeau government is expected to unveil details of its refugee resettlement plan tomorrow.

Kingston – Refugees

Financial donations are being accepted to help refugees coming to the area.  There is no administrative fee and donations can be made online through the the United Way KFLA website.

Mayor Bryan Paterson says the city has a proven interest in helping people who have had to flee their homes.  Over the past few months Kingston has welcomed five refugee families.

City Budget

It’s budget time for the city of Kingston and the tax increase is set to come in at 2.5% for next year.

City council will hold sessions today and tomorrow before approving the budget.

The total budget being proposed by city staff is $416,282,200.

The operating budget is just over $348 million and the capital budget is almost $68 million.

The 2.5% tax increase will add about $80 a year to the tax bill of an average-sized house.

Tree of Hope

Family and Children’s Services of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington says its Tree of Hope Christmas campaign has received a great response – but – fundraising efforts are simply not meeting the demands of it clients.  It is asking for cash donations that will help provide clothing, big ticket items like cribs and beds and recreational activities for children in the area.

Donations can be made to the Tree of Hope Campaign.
