Vision for KP and POH

The city is asking for public feedback on four possible plans for the future of the Kingston Penitentiary property and Portsmouth Olympic Harbour site.

All of the plans include significant housing developments and some include high rise buildings.  Only one would see all of the prison walls maintained.  There are detailed drawings and maps of the proposed plans on the city’s website along with a survey.

Community Projects Manager Julie Salter-Keane is encouraging people to look at the illustrations and descriptions and choose the elements they like.  A public workshop to review feedback will be held early in the New Year.

Basic Income

The province will be kicking off public consultations on a pilot project to guarantee people a minimum income. The consultations will take place until January. The province’s Special adviser is former Kingston Senator Hugh Segal.  Segal is recommending a monthly income of 13-hundred and 20 dollars with another 500 dollars for people with disabilities.  It would replace the Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program.

Leaf Collection

If you’re raking leaves this weekend the city will be collecting them next week.  The schedule for pickup is on the city’s website.

Leaves and yard waste need to be in paper bags, bushel baskets or garbage cans.  Leaves in plastic bags – or in bags that look like plastic – will NOT be picked up by the City… and brush will not be collected.
