Hold and secure at Regiopolis-Notre Dame

Regiopolis-Notre Dame High school was placed into a Hold & Secure situation early yesterday, which was luckily lifted before noon!

The Algonquin-Lakeshore Catholic District School Board put the measure in place yesterday morning after an apparent threat to the high school and its students was made online on Tuesday night.

The Hold & Secure was lifted at around 11:15 a.m., after detectives and uniform officers completed their interviews and cleared the scene.

A teenage boy was taken into custody and questioned by detectives.

Man arrested in relation to theft of signs and statues

The culprit behind several missing signs and statues in the the city has been caught!

50-year-old, Micheal Barry visited a scrap yard on McAdoo’s lane on two separate occasions in November with the stolen property;  3 signs owned by Ontario Heritage Trust and 1  statue owned by Hospice Kingston.

Both times the accused identified himself and sold the items, which resulted in his arrest!

The investigation is continuing as a second involved party has been identified.

Grand Theatre Vandalism

Kingston Police say two girls — aged 13 and 14 — are facing charges following an investigation into vandalism at the Grand Theatre.

Approximately 250 thousand dollars in damage occurred over the last two years to heating and cooling units and duct work, plus the cost to remove frequent graffiti.

Investigators say in the latest incident a girl was seen was throwing bricks from the rooftop to the ground near the rear exit of Megalos restaurant.

Police laid three counts of mischief in relation to graffiti as well as one count of mischief endangering life.

Additionally, six other people have been identified and formally trespassed on the property, with three charges laid under the Trespass to Property Act.
Kingston Police are still hoping to identify others involved as the investigation as the investigation continues

Patrol and Canine Officers Find Break and Enter Suspect Hiding in Backyard

Patrol and Canine officers worked through the night to find a break and enter suspect hiding in a backyard on Tuesday night!

Security guards saw a man attempting to steal copper from a fenced in area at the Hydro station around 3am no Tuesday and called police.

When Kingston police arrived they found stacks of copper wire the accused had removed from the property. The Canine unit was then called in and tracked down 49 yr old Carl C. Sparks through numerous backyards, over fences and across streets!

He has been arrested and charged with break and enter, theft and prowl at night.

Tragically Hip Ornaments might not Make it In Time for Christmas

If you were hoping to head downtown today to purchase that last minute Christmas decoration for the Tragically Hip fan in your life, you may have to wait!

Unfortunately, The Downtown Business association has advised us that the balance of Limited Edition Tragically hip ornaments which had a guaranteed delivery date of yesterday, did not arrive!

However in the holiday spirit of things, they are hopeful that the ornaments will arrive today to be in outlets by this afternoon or Tomorrow morning – we’ll just have to watch social media for updates.
