Police Incident

The southbound lane on Sydenham Road was closed at Unity Road this morning and Kingston Police say they’ve set up a crime scene…but haven’t said anything more.

The police log shows a call to a home in the area about a break in with injuries shortly after one this morning and a few minutes later a call about an assault taking place at Wards Towing.

Power Failure

If you rely on an electric alarm clock to wake up – good luck.

A widespread power hit 3,000 Utilities Kingston customers and another 10,600 Hydro One customers in Kingston early this morning.

A blown transformer at the Hydro One substation on Gardiners Road is suspected to be the cause of the power outage that started at about 12:40 this morning.  Power was restored to everyone by around 3:30 this morning.

Domestic Violence Charges

A 38 year old Kingston man has been charged with forcing his way into the apartment of his child’s 31 year old mother, assaulting her and threatening to kill her in front of the child.

Police say the violent incident happened at an apartment on Division Street between 3 and 6 a/m/ on Wednesday.

The man was arrested at his home around 8am Wednesday and charged with forcible entry, unlawfully in a dwelling house, choking, uttering threats to cause death, forcible confinement, and assault.

Vehicle Fires

Kingston Police think the same person may be responsible for setting three vehicles on fire.

Police first released surveillance video of a man suspected of setting a vehicle on fire on Wilson Street at the end of August.  Since then there have been two other fires during the early morning hours and in all cases the person who set the fires used some type of accelerant to get the fire going.

Kingston Fall Fair

The 185th Kingston Fall Fair opens today.

The fair runs from 9am to 11pm.

Today is Education Day.  A group of about a thousand public elementary school students won’t be attending because their teachers are on a work to rule campaign.

The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 10:15 this morning.

Capping off things tonight will be a demolition derby featuring four and 6 cylinder vehicles.
