Jimi Hendrix Estate Approves New Biopic

The Jimi Hendrix estate has given the green light for an official Hendrix biopic from director Paul Greengrass, according to Rolling Stone. The deal with Legendary Pictures sees 8 Mile screenwriter, Scott Silver, on board, with the estate proving permission for Hendrix masters to be used for the film and accompanying soundtrack. The movie was almost on track to be made four years ago with actor Anthony Mackie being tapped to portray the legendary guitarist, but the filmmakers and Hendrix estate couldn’t come to terms.

While the still untitled upcoming movie was on ice, John Ridley’s unauthorized biopic, Jimi: All Is By My Side, was produced and released marking the first large scale, big screen Hendrix biopic, staring Andre Benjamin. The film, which received decent reviews, featured no original music by Hendrix. No casting or production dates have been announced for the upcoming Hendrix biopic.

U2 Busks On Subway, Bono Gets Back On A Bike

Making good on their pledge to reschedule the weeklong residency they had to cancel on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, U2 went all-out, doing a skit featuring them busking in the New York City subway in disguise. The band ran through “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” in glued-on beards before ripping them off.

They also performed “Beautiful Day” and “Song for Someone” on set.

Fallon interviewed Bono about his November, 2014 bike accident (the reason for the cancelled stint), convincing him to take a ride for the first time since the accident in Central Park that forced him to undergo five hours of surgery.

Paul McCartney Jams At Stepson’s Grad Party

Paul McCartney joined Florida band Josh Walther & The Phase5 on Saturday night (May 9th) to jam on a Beatles classic at his stepson’s graduation party. Examiner.com posted that the bash, held at Winter Park, Florida’s Interlachen Country Club, was thrown in honor of Arlen Shevell, the son of Sir Paul’s third wife, Nancy Shevell. McCartney joined the band for a rousing rendition of the “Fab Four’s” 1963 Please Please Me opener, “I Saw Her Standing There.”

Walther explained that he set up the gig, not through a big time booking agent, but through Shevell herself, who handpicked the band with McCartney’s help: “She called us about this event last year, but I didn’t know who she was. I didn’t figure it out until about two weeks ago when she casually mentioned it on the phone. They found us on the Internet. Nancy said they searched for bands in the area and we were their first choice.”
