Bowman – Body Found

The OPP says no foul play is suspected in the death of a member of the Canadian Forces whose body was found in the St. Lawrence River between Milton Island and Cedar Island.

Police have confirmed it was the body of Captain Tim Bowman that was found on September 13th.  The Canadian Forces pilot had been reported missing after he was last seen on August 26th.  His kayak was recovered shortly after his disappearance.

Hurricane Maria – DART

Members of Canada’s Disaster Assistance Response Team headquartered from CFB Kingston have been sent to Dominica Island to assess damage from hurricane Mariah.

They also offer help to any Canadians currently stranded on the Island.

Hurricane Harvey – Invista Layoffs

Hurricane Harvey is being blamed for the layoff of about 90 employees at the Invista plant in Kingston.  The company says the layoffs are due to transportation disruptions in Texas.  It has had to cut back its production of nylon because it can’t get the chemicals its needs from the Houston area.

Sex Offences

A 20 year old Kingston man is facing charges of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of ten.

Kingston Police say they began their investigation after the girl disclosed the incidents to her mother.

Police have charged the man with two incidents when he was babysitting the girl.  Police say he was 16 and 17 years old at the time.  He’s also been charged with an incident when he was 18 and living temporarily with the girl’s family.

Tax Town Hall

Some people in Kingston are so worked up about the federal government’s proposed tax changes they’re holding a town hall meeting on a Friday night.

The session from 6-8 p.m. today in memorial Hall at Kingston City Hall will feature Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen and tax specialists and it is open to the public.

United Way Update – KF&R Event

Kingston Fire and Rescue is hosting a community day tomorrow at its fire training facility to raise money for the United Way.  There are all kinds of activities taking place.

The United Way campaign in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington announced yesterday it has already raised almost $890,000…25% of its $3,501,000 goal.

 

 

 

Princess Street Promenade

 

One of Kingston’s most popular events returns on Saturday.

Princess Street will be closed to traffic from Division Street to Ontario Street tomorrow.

Downtown Kingston says the one day festival promotes active living and community involvement in the downtown.  Kingston Transit is offering free transit on all of its routes on Saturday.

 

Hospice Kingston’s “Hospicefest”

 

Hospice Kingston will be raising money in City Park tomorrow.

It’s hosting “Hospicefest” from noon to 4p.m.

It will feature foods from local chefs, cooks and bakers along with live music, children’s activities and local craft beer.

Hospice Kingston says it supported over 400 people, their caregivers and families in the Kingston area over the past year.
