Arrest – Kingston Shooting

A 25 year old man from Napanee has been arrested in Guelph and charged with shooting a man in Kingston on Monday. Police say three shots were fired during the home invasion on Runnymede Road early Monday morning.  A man was found on Curtis Crescent suffering from gunshot wounds and taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The 25 year old man and a 24 year old woman…both from Napanee…were arrested in Guelph on Tuesday night.  They are facing 10 charges from police in Guelph.

CF Member Personation

A 36 year old man from Trenton has been charged with impersonating a member of the Canadian Forces and stealing money from a Loyalist Township woman he met online.

The OPP says it received a complaint from the woman last Friday morning and determined the man she met online was not a member of the military.

A news release from the OPP says, after befriending the woman and moving into her home he began stealing money from her.  Police say 36 year old James Genereaux used to live in Loyalist Township and had even worm a military uniform while he was with the woman.

Genereaux faces charges of impersonating a peace officer…three counts of theft under 5,000 and one count of theft over 5,000.  He’s also been charged with failing to comply with his bail conditions.

PETA – Reward – Dogs Stabbed

The animal protection organization PETA…is offering a reward of up to $5000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for stabbing two dogs in Kingston.

Kingston Police believe somebody reached through the fence of the home on Castell Road and stabbed the dogs.

One was found with stab wounds on September 11th…the other dog had been stabbed at the end of June.

The fence runs along the south end of the parking lot at 507 Days Road.

A news release from PETA says both dogs suffered deep, bleeding wounds.

The organization is asking anyone with information about these incidents to contact Constable Clint Wills at Kingston Police.

Hate Crime

A Kingston man has been charged with a hate crime after getting into a dispute with a cashier at a business in downtown Kingston.

Police say the man went into the store on Tuesday and was questioned by a cashier about the content of his bags.  Police say he became irate and made a racial slur toward the woman…gave her the finger and spit in her face.

He’s been charged with criminal harassment, assault, wilfully promoting hatred and breach of release conditions from a previous arrest.

School Gardens Grow

Loving Spoonful and the Limestone District School Board will celebrate expansion of the school-garden Grow Project today.

The program currently operates at eight schools and will be established at 15 more elementary schools in the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington area over the next three years.

The GROW Project has already taught thousands of students in the Limestone Board about good food, collaboration and community through hands-on classroom and garden workshops.

There’s a public celebration tonight at the Olympic Harbour where Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala will announce funding from the Trillium Foundation.

United Way Update – Million Dollar Mark

United Way KFLA Campaign has reached the million dollar milestone.

The campaign hit $1,020,769 yesterday…29% of the $3,501,000 goal.

Mayor Brian Paterson is hosting the city’s kickoff barbecue at Lake Ontario Park today.

United Way Campaign Chair Pat Murphy and his team at Secura Financial will also be hosting their annual BBQ in support of United Way today.

Mini Olympics

First year students at St. Lawrence College have the chance to compete in the Police Foundations “Mini Olympics” today. Students in the police foundations program and Kingston Police are hosting the event.

Activities include an obstacle course, tug of war and capture the flag.

The college says the event is designed to welcome the first year students, develop their team building skills, school spirit, and their connection with the local police service and academic community.
