Hold and Secure

 

Students at LCVI and Calvin Park Public School were placed under hold and secure because of a disturbance involving a student.

There’s no information available on exactly what the disturbance was or if the student that was involved has been charged by police.

The Limestone District School Board says it started just before 2:00 p.m. yesterday and was lifted shortly after 2:30…and all students and staff were safe.

 

OPP – Suspicious Fire

 

An investigation has been launched into a number of suspicious fires in the Greater Napanee area.

The Napanee OPP Crime Unit, Greater Napanee Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Marshal are working together to investigate the fires.

A news release from Napanee OPP says the fires started in June of this year and many have been grass fires or fires at abandoned structures.

Anyone with information that might help the investigation is being asked to contact Napanee OPP or Crime Stoppers.

 

LCBO

 

Kingston City Councillor Ryan Boehme says people in Kingston East will be able to get their liquor quicker.  Boehme posted a message on his Twitter  account yesterday saying…I can confirm officially the LCBO store will be at the new plaza in the East end.

Derek Bayliss of the Kingston East Business Association says he received the confirmation in an e-mail from the head of the property management company for the Riverview Shopping Centre.

Bayliss says after the information was released publicly he received another email stating the LCBO had not signed an agreement yet and insists on making their own first announcements regarding new locations.
New Facility

 

A new $7.7 million dollar facility will officially open today at the Queen’s Bioscience Complex.

The Queen’s Cardiopulmonary Unit will work on translating high quality basic research findings into clinical practice.

Clinical trials of treatments will take place in Kingston, Ottawa, Edmonton, Chicago, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and Sao Paulo.

This facility will also offer echocardiography services to patients as a satellite unit of Kingston Health Sciences Centre, housing clinical care and research in one unit.

 

Gilmour – Obit

 

There’s sadness in the Limestone City with the news that Dolly Gilmour…mother of Kingston hockey legend Doug Gilmour has passed away.  Her husband Don passed away in 2012.

Doug Gilmour posted the following message on his Facebook page with a picture of him between his mother and father:

“RIP mom. Give Dad a Hug and Kiss. Love you.”

 

Brewery – Kingston Move

 

A Toronto craft brewery is re-locating to Kingston.

Spearhead Brewing Company is moving into a new 16,500 square foot space on Development Drive.

Spearhead Brewing will employ ten people it opens in Kingston.  No date has been set for the brewery to open…but…when it does…it will have a retail outlet to sell its products and the company says it will even be open on Christmas Day.

 

OPP and KP – Operation Impact

 

Kingston Police and the OPP are involved in Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving Long Weekend.

Police forces are working to reduce the number of fatalities on the roads this weekend.

The OPP says there have been 182 fatalities on the roads they patrol in the province so far this year and there are four factors involved in the deaths…distracted driving, speeding, alcohol or drug impairment and failing to wear seatbelts.
