Hospital Beds – Kingston

The Ontario government is spending millions of dollars to open hospital beds as complaints about overcrowding grow.

12 hundred beds will be added to the system and another 800 beds will be added for care outside of hospitals.

The Kingston Health Sciences Centre will get 25 new beds and two new bassinets for infants in the neonatal intensive care unit.  32 other beds will be available at other locations and for specialized care outside of hospitals.

Assault – Charges

A 24-year-old Kingston man has been charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and attacking her.

Police say the victim came home around 3 in the morning on Friday to find the man hiding in her bedroom.

The woman was saved by a roommate who physically removed the man.  He came back an hour later but took off when police were called.

A man turned himself in to police Friday night and faces charges of break, enter and assault.

Stabbing Self

A 23-year-old Kingston man has been charged after stabbing himself and blaming his girlfriend.

Kingston Police were called to an east end motel around 4am yesterday after getting a 911 call from a man saying he’d been stabbed by a woman.

Police say officers learned he had actually stabbed himself in the leg after assaulting the woman after getting into an argument.

Imersonating Police

A 55 year old man has been charged after a bizarre incident where a driver was pulled over by a man claiming to be an OPP officer.

It happened Friday morning…on Brock Street when a man yelled at a driver about making an illegal turn…then followed the driver and pulled the person over on Montreal Street.

The driver took a picture of the man.

Police arrested a man at a home on Sydenham Road.

The man has been charged with impersonating an officer, assault and forcible confinement.

Impaired – Boxed In

The Kingston citizens who used their vehicles to box in an impaired driver are being thanked by Kingston Police for their actions on Sunday night.

A vehicle almost hit a cyclist on Champlain Avenue around 10:30 at night.

Citizens boxed it in on Portsmouth Avenue at Glengarry.

A 47 year old man was arrested and has been charged with having approximately 2 ½ times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Paramedics – Long Service

Two paramedics in Frontenac County have been honoured for their long service by Ontario Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.

Terry Baker and Barry McGrath were both presented with the first bar for the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal marking their 30 years of service.

Baker and McGrath were among 55 paramedics in Ontario who were honoured at Queen’s Park in Toronto last night.

Horsing Around

Kingston Police horse Murney has placed in the top ten in its first competition…The North American Police Equestrian Championships.  They took place in Devon, Pennsylvania in mid-October.

Constable Sarah Groenewegen and Murney placed 8th out of 60 horses in the Expert Equitation Class…they also finished fourth in the Uniform Class.

It’s based on appearance and turnout of horse and rider.
