Abandoned-Dog

A dog stolen from in front of a home on Princess Street in downtown Kingston on Tuesday night has been returned to its owner.  Two 13 year old girls and a 17 year old girl have been charged with stealing the dog and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Police say the girls stole the one year old Bull Mastiff and Boxer mix and got on a Kingston Transit bus.  When they heard a description over the two way radio on the bus they got off and left the dog tied up somewhere along King Street.  A resident found the dog and took care of it Tuesday night.  It was returned to its owner yesterday.

Hiker Found

A 51-year-old woman from Gananoque is safe after getting lost on a hike on Monday.  The woman had gone for a walk on trails off of Marble Rock Road in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township.

Police say fortunately she had a cell phone and was able to contact them.

They had to hike five kilometres to find her and escort her back to her vehicle.

ROPE – Offender Wanted

A man serving eight and a half years for setting numerous fires is wanted by police on a Canada Wide Warrant…and 65 year old Douglas Archer is known to frequent Kingston…along with Oxford County and North Bay.

Anybody with information on the whereabouts of Douglas Archer is being asked to contact The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad or Crime Stoppers.

Drifter – Sexual Assault

Kingston Police have charged a 19-year-old man after three women were sexually assaulted on the Queen’s University Campus.

Police say the first incident happened at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday in front of a residence on University Avenue where a woman was groped by a man.  Ten minutes later a man jumped two women at the entrance to City Park.

The 19 year old has no fixed address and has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, resisting arrest and two counts of breach of probation.

Sexual Assault Review

Kingston Police and police in five other cities are taking part in a pilot project aimed at ensuring sexual assault charges are being laid whenever the evidence warrants it.

The three-year project will give the Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre and the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women access to police files in Kingston, Ottawa, Peterborough, London, Timmins, Stratford and Calgary.  The project is the first of its kind in Canada and is based on a model pioneered in Philadelphia.

Wrong Way Driver

The OPP is trying to track down the driver of a transport driven the wrong way on the 401 shortly before 6am on Monday near Mallorytown.

The gray truck was pulling a blue trailer and was going west in the eastbound lanes.  The truck cut through the median between the eastbound and westbound service centers.  It was damaged and a silver bumper from a Volvo truck was found at the scene.

Business Forecast Luncheon

The annual Queen’s Business Forecast Luncheon takes place at the Four Points Sheraton today and this year it will have a Kingston focus.

The experts will discuss how Kingston ranks relative to other communities of a similar size in terms of economic growth and job creation.  They’ll also provide their national economic forecast.

Market Square – Rink Open

The skating rink in Springer Market Square has opened.

Skating in the Square is free from 8am to 10pm every day.

And…The city has planned an event for tomorrow from 5 to 9 p.m. called “Snow Much Fun” complete with a reading of How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Mayor Bryan Paterson and a skating demonstration by Kingston Synchronized Skating.
