Weather – School Transportation

The weekend weather left roads in Prince Edward County in poor condition this morning and Tri-Board Student Transportation cancelled all school buses serving the County.  Several other routes operated by the agency in other regions were also cancelled because of road conditions.

Town-Defrauded

A man from Napanee and another from Crysler, Ontario are facing charges of defrauding the town of Kapuskasing in northeastern Ontario of about $800,000.

The OPP says the town was being defrauded between September of 2014 and February of 2015.

They say one of the people involved was the owner of a solar panel company under contract with Kapuskasing.

54 year old Karl Hollett of Napanee has been charged with fraud over $5,000.

64 year old Yvone Brosseau of Crysler faces the same charge, along with one count of breach of trust by a public officer.

Nurses – Hospitals

Talks between the union representing Ontario’s registered nurses and the association representing Ontario hospitals have broken down.

The Ontario Nurses Association says there was little meaningful progress after 113 days at the bargaining table.

The two sides will now head to arbitration scheduled for February 26 and 27.

Nurses are considered an essential service and cannot legally strike.

Caroline Mulroney – Conservative Leadership

She’s never been elected to public office but that isn’t stopping Caroline Mulroney from running to become the leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Party.

The 43 year old Toronto lawyer and daughter of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney confirmed her intention to seek the leadership on the weekend.

Toronto politician Doug Ford, brother of the late Rob Ford, is also in the leadership race.

The new leader will be decided on March 10th.

Weekend – Kingston

A large crowd filled Springer Market Square to enjoy figure skating as part of Feb Fest on Saturday.  Canadian figure skating legend Elvis Stojko entertained the crowd.

On Sunday…People braved the weather to jump into Lake Ontario from Crawford Wharf.

The 2018 Polar Plunge raised $30,000 for the Special Olympics.

Super Bowl – After the Win

Philadelphia is cleaning up after its late-night street celebrations, where some fans smashed windows, climbed traffic lights and trashed several convenience stores.

The city will be hosting a parade and Bud light has spilled the details on its promise of free beer for the city now that the Eagles have won the Super Bowl.

They’re making good on a summertime deal with Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson. 25 bars along the parade route will be offering free Bud Light to patrons.
