London Crash

London police say an incident in which a car was driven into a barrier near the Houses of Parliament appears to be a deliberate act.

The suspect is in custody, and not co-operating with police.

Officials say no other suspects have been identified and there is no “intelligence” of further danger to London.

Two people were hurt, but authorities said none of the injuries are life-threatening.

Prime Minister Theresa May has offered her praise for the emergency services for their “immediate and courageous response,” following the incident.

London has seen four vehicle-based terror attacks in less than 18 months.

Italian Bridge Collapse

Italian authorities say 11 are dead in a bridge collapse in the northern port city of Genoa.

Officials say 20 vehicles were involved in the collapse, and two people have been pulled alive from the rubble.

Reports say that a 200-meter section of the Morandi Bridge collapsed Tuesday over an industrial zone, and firefighters told The Associated Press that there are concerns about gas lines.

Police on Twitter said the collapse occurred during a sudden violent storm.

Man threatens police with machete

A 37 year old man is facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a dangerous weapon, after allegedly pulling a machete and hammer on a police officer.

On Sunday around 7pm, police responded to a disturbance call.

The first responding officer called out to the accused near the back of the address, at which point he came at her with a machete.

The officer drew her firearm, directing the accused to stop several times.

He then reportedly dropped the machete, and continued walking towards her with a hammer he pulled out of his waistband.

He eventually dropped the weapon, and was arrested.

Kingston Death Threats

Police have arrested a 25 year old woman for allegedly making death threats online.

Police began investigating last week, when three victims were contacted through social media by the accused, who they did not know.

She then reportedly sent over 60 messages, including explicitly violent threats to the victims and their families.

The investigating officer used social media to contact the accused, and arrange a meeting.

When the accused arrived at the meeting on Saturday, she was arrested.

Prison Farm Supporters

Activists stood on the corner of Bath Road and Centennial Drive for the final time last night, celebrating the return of prison farms to the area.

For 8 years, the group stood outside Collins Bay Institution every Monday to stand up for the closure of Kingston’s prison farms.

In March, the federal Liberal party’s budget announced it had put aside $4.3 million over five years to reinstate the prison farms.

Last month, the Liberals announced the prison farms will be reinstated with crops as well as dairy and goat milk production.

Cannabis Update

The Ontario Government says the sale of recreational cannabis will start online in the fall before it is sold through private retail stores in April of next year.

Attorney general Caroline Mulroney and Finance minister Vic Fedeli made the announcement yesterday, as well as saying the legal age to buy it will be 19.

Fedeli says retailers will have to follow a series of rules including prohibiting the sale of cannabis to anyone under 19, noting that those selling to underage buyers will lose their licence.

Consumers will only be allowed to use legalized pot in a private residence, including the outdoor space of the home.

Woman Escapes Abusive Partner

A 43 year old man has been charged with multiple counts of assault, mischief, and breach of probation after violently assaulting a woman.

The victim and the accused were in their home when the accused allegedly became violent for an unknown reason, striking and choking the victim.

When she fell to the floor, he continued the assault.

The victim managed to escape, running to a nearby restaurant to call police.

An investigation revealed previous incidents of violence.

Authentic Firearm

An 18 year old is facing imitation weapon charges, after displaying what appeared to be a handgun to other drivers on Saturday.

Around 1:15 in the morning, reports say the accused pulled up next to another driver in a black SUV playing very loud music, and displayed a handgun.

Responding officers found the SUV at a restaurant near Gardiners Road and Taylor Kidd Blvd, with an authentic looking pellet gun in the front seat.

The driver was arrested in the restaurant.
