The Kingston Police are investigating a violent incident on Rideau Street.

Emergency services were called to the area near Montreal Street around 3:30 yesterday afternoon.

On-Going Harassment

A 65 year old woman is facing 14 counts of mischief, uttering threats, and criminal harassment, following an ongoing dispute with a neighbour.

An investigation that began on Tuesday revealed the accused has been allegedly making unsubstantiated complaints about the victim for around two years, at one point threatening to kill her.

The accused was found and transported to police headquarters, where she was released on conditions with a future court date.

MPP Housing Allowances

The Progressive Conservative government is coming under fire from the Liberals for quietly increasing M-P-Ps’ rental housing allowances by about 20 per cent.

Documents obtained by The Canadian Press show the Board of Internal Economy decided to hike the housing accommodation ceiling in October, making it retroactive to July 1st.

The move comes as the Tories implement an aggressive cost-cutting agenda in order to deal with what they say is a 14.5-billion-dollar deficit.

Electric Vehicle Chargers

Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen has announced that as of this fall, the Limestone city will become home to two electric vehicle fast chargers.

He made the announcement yesterday afternoon at the Kingston Climate Change Symposium, on behalf of Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources.

The funding is part of the Government’s $182.5-million investment to develop a coast-to-coast charging network for electric vehicles.

Special Weather Statement

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Kingston and the Islands heading into the weekend.

They warn of snow and BITTERLY cold temperatures over the next 48 hours.

Current estimates are saying we could get 15 centimeters of snow, that would start falling tomorrow afternoon, and taper off on Sunday morning.

This will be accompanied by brutal temperatures and a stiff wind, resulting in wind chill values in the -25 to -35 range.

Assault on Police

A 20 year old woman is facing multiple counts of assault and harassment, after an incident earlier this week.

Reports say the accused showed up outside a west end residence where she believed her ex-boyfriend was, and began sending threatening texts.

The resident of the home then came outside and allegedly saw the accused yelling and holding a hammer, while demanding her ex come out.

When police arrived, the accused was found hitting the outside of the home with a hammer, and spat in the officer’s face.

She was then taken into custody

Tuition Hike

The Ontario Progressive Conservative Government is coming under fire for their changes to post secondary education, announced yesterday.

Student organizations say allowing college and university students to opt out of the fees that fund campus groups, student newspapers and clubs will make post-secondary institutions less transparent.

That change came alongside other reforms to higher education that included scrapping free tuition for low-income students and imposing an across-the-board tuition fee cut.
