Public Health Alert

Patients of a Kingston dental clinic are being advised to get tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV after an inspection of the clinic by KFL&A Public Health.

The inspection found possible problems with infection prevention and control practices at Dr. Ken Luco Dentistry on Highway 15.  The health unit ordered the dentist’s practice to close following the inspection on January 16th. It re-opened on February 4th.

About 2,700 patients are being told to get tested.

KFL&A public health says no incidents of hepatitis B, hepatitis C or HIV transmission at the dental clinic have been reported at this time.

Napanee – Drug Bust

Napanee OPP has charged five people with conspiracy, cocaine trafficking and weapons offences.

The OPP says it worked one the investigation with the Correctional Service and police in Belleville and Toronto.  Search warrants were executed on February 11th at a residence and business in Napanee, a business in Prince Edward County and a residence in Scarborough.

22 year old Shayne Murdoch, 52 year old Brian Murdoch and 51 year old Sherry Murdoch were arrest in Napanee.  An 86 year old man was arrested in Belleville and a man arrested in Scarborough…had his parole revoked and is now back in the care of the Correctional Service.

 

Quinte West Bust

The OPP in Quinte West has also made a major drug bust.

Six people have been arrested in a joint investigation into cocaine trafficking.  The investigation called Project UMA involved the OPP, Belleville Police and Toronto Police.

 

Cupido – Prison Term

A 39 year old Kingston man has been sentenced to almost four years in prison for attacking his former female partner and a man with a baseball bat.

Michael J. Cupido broke into the woman’s home in Kingston’s west end in July and attacked the woman and man in her bedroom.  He pleaded guilty in December and was sentenced yesterday.

 

Stabbing

A man was lucky to escape with minor injuries after being stabbed by another man at a residence in downtown Kingston.  Kingston Police say a man went to the home on Monday morning to talk to her former female roommate.  Police say the man was acting irrationally and when the other man came to the door and stepped outside he was stabbed in the stomach.  A 57 year old Kingston man has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

 

Barricaded Man

The Kingston Police Emergency Response Unit had to break down the door of a residence to arrest a man wanted for domestic violence.

Police say a woman had reported multiple incidents of domestic assault on February 11th after a two and a half year relationship with a man.  He used a two by four to barricade himself in her residence and when police arrived he refused to come out.  Police got an arrest warrant – returned and broke down the door to arrest the man. A 46 year old man has been charged with two counts of assault.

 

Up Cannabis – Experiential Hub

A Calgary based company has confirmed it is opening a retail cannabis outlet in Kingston.

Spirit Leaf has signed an agreement with one of Ontario’s pot shop lottery winners and says the store in Kingston will open on April 1st.  It will be located in the Smith and Robinson building at the corner of Princess and Ontario Streets in the heart of downtown Kingston.

The Tragically Hip backed pot producer – Up Cannabis – says it will have a store within a store in the bands hometown.  It calls it an “experiential hub”.
