Covenant of Mayors

The role of Kingston’s Mayor as a member of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy comes with some major commitments for the city.

Kingston will have to analyze where local greenhouse emissions are taking place and what the current effects of climate change are.  It will also have to create an action plan…including clear and ambitious CO2 reduction targets, design resilience strategies, set goals to improve access to sustainable energy; and regularly report on the progress that is being made.  City council declared a climate emergency in Kingston at its meeting on March 5th.

Home Programs

Two programs are available for residents of Kingston and Frontenac County considering buying a first home or renovating an existing home.

Renters with low to moderate incomes may be eligible for assistance with down payments on a first house under the Home Ownership program.  Six people were able to buy homes through the program last year.

The Kingston Frontenac Renovates program offers up to 10 thousand dollars for emergency repairs and up to five thousand for renovations to make homes accessible.  It helped 25 households last year.

Applications are being accepted starting today and details are available on the city’s website.
