Roslin Murder

A woman from Greater Napanee has been murdered and police have charged her stepson.

The OPP says it was called to a home on Shannonville Road in Roslin on Saturday afternoon.  Officers found the body of 56 year old Gail Doreen White.

They arrested 38 year old John Masson White at the scene.

He’s being held at the Quinte Detention Centre and has a court appearance on a charge of 1st degree murder set for tomorrow.

Man Sentenced – Crossfield House Fire

A Kingston man who was under house arrest for a domestic incident sill spend three years in prison for setting his Crossfield Drive home on fire last January.

42 year old Noel Alexander Terrell stabbed himself in the neck when police broke in and quick action by officers has been credited with saving his life.  On top of the prison term he’s been ordered to pay over $85,000 in restitution for the damage.

Terrell set the home on fire after his fiancé told him she was breaking off their relationship.

Driver Charged – Single Vehicle Crash

A driver has been charged following a single vehicle crash on Aragon Road near Battersea.

An SUV went off the road and rolled over around six last night.

One person was arrested at the scene and charged with impaired driving.

CAS Closed

The Family and Children’s Services office in Kingston is closed today and tomorrow.

The agency is conducting training on the new Child Protection Information Network.  It is a new initiative by the province to replace separate information systems at the 47 Children’s Aid Societies with a new, coordinated system.

Family and Children’s Services says it make it more efficient and accountable.

The offices will re-open on Wednesday.

Spelling Bee Championship

Reading lots of books and sounding out the words was the key for the winner of the Kingston Region Spelling Bee.  Grade 7 Calvin Park student Isaiah Kozier defeated last year’s champion…Grade 9 Regi student Zachary Betts to win the intermediate level championship on Saturday.

Both got the word tympani wrong…but Kozier then correctly spelled calibrate for the win.

He wins $400 and a spot in the Ontario championship in Toronto on May 15th.
